abertis telecom takes part in the development of Terrestrial Digital Television in mobile receivers.
The company is undertaking pilot tests in several Spanish cities along with the main companies from the audiovisual and telecommunications sector in order to check the functioning of DVB-H technology.
Spain has been one of the pioneering countries in the pre-commercial launch of this type of service. Jointly with the most advanced countries from the European audiovisual sector, such as Finland, Germany, United Kingdom and France, Spain is once again committed to technological innovation and is at the cutting-edge of this market.
The pilot tests that have been held in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Valencia, Zaragoza and Gijón look into the opportunities of new services that can be developed around mobile television using the Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld technology (DVB-H).
The experience of the user before the contents on offer – the usability of the mobile Terminal, the choice of the time they have chosen to use the service, etc. – will enable the profile of a specific user to be determined when designing and implementing the contents and applications.
The experience of the pilot tests already carried out shows that DVB-H technology is a suitable solution for providing Mobile Digital TV services and confirms the potential market demand of this type of service.
DVB-H technology (Digital Video Broadcast Handheld) is the adaptation of the DVB-T terrestrial digital television norm for mobile devices. It is a standard proposed by the DVB project for transmitting TV contents and data to handheld devices, such as mobile phones, which have very specific requirements such as low consumption batteries, the size of the screen and mobility.

As well as watching television in any place at any time, the mobile television service provides a service enriched by interactive contents. It will also result in new online peak viewing times and will offer the possibility of personalising the service and having interactive services integrated with eMotion, such as contents, WAP, downloads...
