10 years of abertis telecom

2000

Acesa Telecom (currently abertis telecom) acquires 52% of the shares of Tradia. abertis telecom begins its journey in the audiovisual sector and in mobile radio-communications for security and emergency bodies, forming the company that will become the leader in the running of telecommunication infrastructures in Spain.

In these 10 years the company has prospered with new applications of administration and leisure, supported by technologies developed by organisms and companies. With this in mind, we would highlight some milestones in the history of abertis telecom:

2001

abertis telecom boosts its position in the radio-communications for security and emergency bodies sector by means of the TETRA and Àgora networks.

2002

abertis telecom is awarded the development and setting up of DTT in La Rioja.

2003

After completing the division process of Auna, the audiovisual business of retevisión becomes part of abertis telecom, thus strengthening the presence of the group in Spanish telecommunications.

2004

Levelling down work is undertaken of retevisión and tradia aimed ay ensuring the profitability and progress of abertis telecom.

2005

Digital Terrestrial Television officially gets under way. abertis telecom has the only network in all of Spain that provides coverage to 80% of the population.

abertis telecom carries out the first DTT tests on mobile phones, holding technical pilot tests in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Zaragoza and Gijón

2006

abertis telecom is awarded the contract for which it becomes the operator of DTT signals for the national coverage of Spanish radio stations. This contract includes more than 20 channels.

abertis telecom is the official network supplier at the 3GSM World Congress.

2007

abertis telecom formalises the acquisition of 32% del of the satellite operator Eutelsat. It thus strengthens its presence in the European telecommunications sector.

abertis telecom works in the development of Advanced DTT, through the TDT.COM and TDT 2.0 projects.

2008

abertis telecom continues developing the business relating to mobile radio-communications and is awarded the service of the COMDES network, for the Generalitat Valenciana, through ADESAL, a consortium created for this purpose.

The Ministry of Public Works awards abertis telecom the “Safety of Life at Sea” service, for the State Office for Sea Rescue, dependent on the Ministry of Public Works.

abertis telecom develops in april the analogue shutdown in the village of A Fonsagrada (Lugo) for subsequently in july, “switch off” the analoge TV in Soria. Both dates are the beginning for the analogue shutdown in Spain.

2009

abertis telecom develops Stage I of the analogue shutdown, featured in the National Transition Plan of the DTT. abertis telecom proceeds to close down analogue broadcasts in the centres stipulated in 18 Technical Plans, leading to digital broadcasts from more than 280 centres in its network.

2010

The year of analogue shutdown. In line with the National Transition Plan of the DTT, on the 3 of April the analogue shutdown takes place. For abertis telecom it represents the result of years of dedication and effort for the digitalisation of its network, and of the policy of collaboration with the regional and local administrations with the aim of taking DTT into Spanish homes.
